Update on SYSTEM:RESET

View all news

SYSTEM:RESET is a pan European project which aims to build strong, collective youth visions for a socially just and ecologically sound future. It aims to amplify the voices of young people from communities that are underrepresented in policy making and political decision making spaces.

We recently ran a very successful fundraiser to enable us to provide digital tools, tech equipment and resources to young people and youth projects hoping to engage with us through the System Reset Project - who might otherwise not have been able to participate. This fundraiser has shown that our supporters are willing to support our educational offerings and see the added value in youth engagement and reaching those who have been underrepresented in the climate movement. We are so grateful to everyone who donated!

We have been working with several youth organisations to facilitate workshops, trainings and other events on climate justice issues - and to support them to run their own events on these issues too. In June we also supported Irish participants to take part in a European Summit on Climate Justice - you can read more about this here.

We are running an exciting series of SYSTEM RESET Youth assemblies this week to explore the interconnections between climate justice and social justice issues and look at the concept of a Green New Deal.

The first youth assembly focused on health justice because we need to make sure that the health of both people and planet is prioritised. Soaring inequalities caused have led to growing rates of poor physical and mental health. The COVID-19 pandemic has only amplified these inequalities, further impacting communities that have already been pushed to the margins.

The second youth assembly focused on economic justice because we need to transform our economy to lift communities out of poverty and tackle unemployment as part of a Just Energy Transition.

The third youth assembly taking place today will explore the challenges and opportunities of tackling the accommodation crisis in Ireland as part of a Just Transition. You can read more about the assemblies here. We will hold a national youth assembly in September with key decision makers where we will be feeding in youth visions and demands collated from these summer youth assemblies.
