Last month, we organised a Just Recovery conference on behalf of Coalition 2030, who were keen to explore how the Sustainable Development Goals could be used to guide Ireland’s recovery from the pandemic.

We were joined by some excellent speakers, including Dr Mike Ryan from the World Health Organisation, Asad Rehman from War on Want and Paola Simonetti from the International Trade Union Confederation.

Missed the conference? Don't worry - we recorded it for you to watch back at your leisure! You can watch it by clicking here or by viewing it in the screen below.

The Just Recovery conference highlighted the need to join up our struggles for climate action, social justice, global justice and health justice.

Now it’s time to unpack this further - to dive deeper into why we need this interconnected approach and how we can take it. We’ll be doing this through a series of Learning Hub events this August and September.

Our Learning Hub revolves around a number of core books. We run webinars and online workshops that are based on themes emerging from these books. Reading the books is recommended, but not essential! (Click here to donate to receive a Learning Hub book).

Our next Learning Hub event takes place on the 16th August at 6pm and will explore themes emerging from Naomi Klein’s book, On Fire, the Burning Case for a Green New Deal. We’ll explore how climate action can be embedded into action to build a fairer, more equal society, where everyone’s basic needs are met and no one is left behind.

We're delighted to be joined by Dipti Bhatnagar who will facilitate this workshop. Dipti is based in Mozambique and works on climate justice and energy issues with Friends of the Earth International and with Friends of the Earth Mozambique. She has worked on fighting dirty energy and false climate solutions and has lived for many years with indigenous and farming communities fighting against destructive large dams on the Narmada River in central India. Dipti has also worked alongside Latino farm workers in California's agricultural Salinas Valley, to demand clean drinking water for these communities.
