Commenting on the British government's announcement about the location of 10 new nuclear power stations, Friends of the Earth Ireland's director, Oisin Coghlan, said:

This is the wrong technology for Britain in the wrong place for Ireland. Nuclear power stations have never been built and operated without massive public subsidies and UK taxpayers would get a much bigger bang for their buck investing in renewables and energy efficiency. For our part the Irish government should make it clear we will not buy nuclear energy over the new interconnector.
