This event is being organised by young people for young people. We want to connect with other young people from all parts of Ireland who are interested in shaping the future of Young Friends of the Earth and the campaigns and actions we do over the coming year. For this summer gathering we will be meeting in Glendalough Youth Hostel in County Wicklow. This is a beautiful part of the country which will provide us with plenty of opportunities for being outside and spending time in nature as well as a scenic setting for building our campaign and action plans!

Participants food and accommodation will be provided and paid for. Our travel budget for this event is limited. We will aim to prioritise financial support for travel to those who require 100% reimbursement first.

Join us in Glendalough, Co. Wicklow to mobilise for climate justice!

This youth gathering will be about:

  • Skill-sharing
  • Sharing our stories and experiences
  • Information sessions on various climate campaigns and issues
  • Learning about dirty energy struggles and positive solutions from all around the world
  • Reflecting on intersectionnality and privilege: the connections between issues of racism, sexism, class, nationalism and inequality – why is the environmental movement predominantly white and middle class and how do we as youth challenge and change this?
  • Working to connect the climate justice movement to other social struggles
  • Working on our campaign and action plans for the rest of 2022 and looking ahead into 2023
  • Spending time in nature.

Dates: 21 - 24th of August, 2022. Participants will arrive at 12 noon on Sunday 21st of August at Glendalough Youth Hostel. The event will run until 12 noon on Wednesday 24th of August.

Programme: The programme will include sessions to learn about the Young Friends of the Earth network, the campaigns and issues that Friends of the Earth is working on, as well as skill-shares, training and information sessions. We will also have activities to get to know one another and plan how we would like to continue to work together over the next year. We will also take time for outdoor activities and time in nature too!
