Summary

Why Legislate? Designing a climate law for Ireland.

This is a report on Climate Legislation by the Institute of International and European Affairs. It explores options around policy instruments that should be included in the act and busts some of the myths surrounding the design and purpose of climate legislation.

Drawing lessons from international and Irish examples of climate legislation, the report argues that a well-designed law could serve to enhance long-term thinking, and act as a foundation for the transition to a clean, smart and green economy.
