Sick of Plastic is a joint campaign, hosted by Friends of the Earth and VOICE Ireland. Together, we are working to empower people and communities to pressure industry and decision makers to take action on single use plastic.
We’ve been campaigning to ban the most commonly littered single use plastic items for three years now. We’re excited to report that some promising developments in this area were made earlier this month! On July 5th, EU countries had to transpose the Single Use Plastic Directive into law.

Update on SYSTEM:RESET

Posted on July 22, 2021 by Deirdre Duff

SYSTEM:RESET is a pan European project which aims to build strong, collective youth visions for a socially just and ecologically sound future. It aims to amplify the voices of young people from communities that are underrepresented in policy making and political decision making spaces.

We recently ran a very successful fundraiser to enable us to provide digital tools, tech equipment and resources to young people and youth projects hoping to engage with us through the System Reset Project - who might otherwise not have been able to participate. This fundraiser has shown that our supporters are willing to support our educational offerings and see the added value in youth engagement and reaching those who have been underrepresented in the climate movement. We are so grateful to everyone who donated!

Community Energy - FoE Europe Solar Panels

We want everyone to be involved in the renewable energy revolution! The energy of the future must be renewable but it should also be community owned! We believe that communities, schools and grassroots organisations should be supported to own, generate, use and sell their own electricity. Recognising the value that small generators can contribute to our energy transition is hugely important and should allow for income to be spread through communities, like schools, farms, local authorities - and create an incentive for more people and communities to invest in renewables.

Sick of Plastic is our campaign in partnership with VOICE Ireland. Together, we are working to empower communities to pressure industry and decision makers to take action on single use plastic.

Despite not being able to take direct action through our Supermarket Shop & Drop’s due to COVID-19 restrictions, Sick of Plastic has remained as creative as ever in presenting fun and interactive ways for people to take action on single use plastics. There are lots of ways to take action, you can start by taking photos of excessive plastic packaging in your supermarkets and sharing it with Sick of Plastic on social media or via email sickofplasticireland@gmail.com to help build the pressure on supermarkets to act.
