Foodie Workshops for ECO-Week

Globally, and within Ireland, there are many injustices built into our food system.Join us for a webinar to discuss these dynamics - and solutions- on Wednesday May 6th at 2pm EST / 7pm GMT / 8pm CET.

Growing Together, Time to Get Involved!

The Growing Together project has been working with a group of youth agri-activists (which includes farmers, horticulturists, students, policy geeks, rural and urban youth from Ireland and beyond) to raise awareness and share skills on regenerative agriculture in Ireland and Europe.

Climate Hustings - Guest Blog

Alex Tone is an American student in her third year of Political Science and Geography at Trinity College Dublin. She is an active member of the Growing Together agri-activist team and one of the organizers for The Climate Hustings - an independently-organized event for candidates in the general election to respond to individuals and grassroots groups - that took place at the Mansion House on February 3rd.

Good Food, Good Farming

Through October Friends of the Earth were celebrating the Good Food Good Farming Days of Action as part of our Growing Together project by championing the change makers who are shaping a fairer food system here in Ireland.
Good Food Good Farming is a European civil society alliance that calls on decision makers to support for peasant farmers, environment- and climate-friendly agriculture which is tied into local economies across global food chains.

Fair Farming in Ireland

Supporting the launch of Talamh Beo!
In support of the growing community of sustainable growers and farmers in Ireland, Friends of the Earth joined the launch of Talamh Beo, a new grassroots organisation of farmers, growers and land based workers, launched outside the Department of Agriculture where they presented an oak tree to Minister Creed.
In preparation for the launch action Friends of the Earth hosted two film screening and banner painting sessions to encourage citizens to stand with small sustainable farmers and call on the government to support the vision of Talamh Beo - a living landscape where people and ecosystems can thrive together.

The Future is Rural Festival - October 4th & 5th

Celebrating sustainable food, farming and community energy
Come along to 'The Future is Rural', a sustainable rural futures fair on October 4 and 5, in Ballina, County Mayo.
Delivered by Foodture, the Irish Environmental Network and Friends of the Earth, this event includes film screenings, talks, stalls, demonstrations and children's workshops, all focussed on building sustainable rural futures through food, farming and community energy.
In Our Hands: Seeding Change
6 - 9pm, Friday, October 4, 2019
The first part of this event is a screening in the museum's AV Theatre of the award-winning and thought-provoking documentary In Our Hands: Seeding Change. This will be followed by a lively panel discussion with foodies, farmers, activists and experts.

Growing Together, Building Solidarity Through Food

The Growing Together project, which aims to engage young people on the topic of food production, have been busy networking and training over the past few months. Here's a round-up of what they've been up to.
CAP - Let's Lift the Lid
In the lead up to the European elections the Growing Together project hosted a training on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) in partnership with Foodture called 'CAP - Let's Lift the Lid'. The event featured a Fair Food Feast with all food sourced from local, sustainable farmers and a photo exhibition featuring the farmers who grew the food.

Introducing the Growing Together Project

Growing Together is a Young Friends of the Earth Europe project across seven European Countries, including Ireland, which aims to provides a voice for young people, particularly those from rural areas, to engage with crucial debates on the future of food production, and the wider debates on the future of Europe.
Triona, staff member of Friends of the Earth and active member of Young Friends of the Earth, will be coordinating a programme of activities and opportunities for young people in Ireland to join workshops and trainings in Ireland and other European partner countries over the next two years.
The project kicked off back in November 2018 with four young people travelling to Denmark for training on engaging rural youths in conversations and actions related to food sovereignty.
