Do you have a sense there are root causes resulting in these injustices?
And do you want to learn skills for getting others involved in change-making for real impact?
Then look no further, and apply to take part in Friends of the Earth's 6-week System Change for a Just Transition Online Course,'Mobilize. Resist. Transform.'
This course aims to offer a space to explore the environmental issues of our time, how they intersect, what some of the root causes are, and some tools and strategies for taking action. We will collectively explore the issues over the course of the 6 sessions, with reading materials provided for each week.

Building Resilience, for Sustaining Action
Posted on November 10, 2019 by Claudia Tormey

Watching and being a part of the rise in climate action across the world has been exciting and empowering to say the least. More and more people are joining the movement, and we need to ensure we're forming a strong community of activism that can last!
Burnout can happen to any of us, and it's something the Friends of the Earth team are acuetly aware of. Because we work so closely with activist groups (and many of us are in actists groups), in supporting skills and capacity building and helping amplify grassroots actions and campaigns, we feel it's important to not only promote community wellbeing within the movement but also provide opportunities for activists to gain skills in this area.

De-Escalation Training with Extinction Rebellion
Posted on October 03, 2019 by Guest Blogger

As part of the 'Power-Up! Autumn of Action Training Series', we supported three young Extinction Rebellion activists to lead a training on de-escalation tactics in high-pressure situations of civil disobedience. Here is a short piece from one of the main organisers, Sarah.
Non-violence is one of Extinction Rebellion’s core principles, and ensuring that the environmental movement remains non-violent is critical to ensuring its success. A movement that is non-violent has a far greater reach and is far more inclusive than a violent campaign. Ensuring that non-violence is at the core of our movements also sends a powerful message: we are creating the vision of a society we with to see, one at which empathy and peace is at the core.

Posted on September 11, 2019 by Claudia Tormey

It's a Climate Emergency.
And on September 20th, we're filling the streets.
On Friday the 15th of March 2019 1.6 million people took part in a global climate strike in more than 125 countries in more than 2,000 locations. In Ireland more than 15,000 students took part in protests for urgent climate action.
This September 20th, we're going to smash that number. But we need you to make that happen!
Find and join your nearest strike!
School-age students have self-organised marches around the country and they need you to attend.

Active Hope - Two Webinars and One Event
Posted on July 17, 2019 by Claudia Tormey

Active Hope is something we do. And we're doing it together.
This month, we've been reading 'Active Hope' by Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone and last week we hosted an online discussion with Chris Johnstone to introduce Active Hope, you can watch the recording here at this link.
In this webinar, Chris shares what inspired him to write the book and how it was born from a series of conversations with Joanna Macy. Chris was curious to find out what can we do to help us adequately respond to the climate crisis while sustaining our actions.
