Violent Borders - exploring the links between climate change and migration

At Friends of the Earth, we’re creating a space for discussion, critical thinking, peer education and building a sense of solidarity. It’s called our Learning Hub! We create conversations that hinge around issues arising from books that the Friends of the Earth community is reading.

Our next Learning Hub event will explore connections between climate and migration. It takes place on Monday 12th April at 6pm - we hope you can join us.

Register for our Climate & Migration Webinar on 12th April

This webinar will be based loosely on themes emerging from Reece Jones’ book ‘Violent Borders, Refugees and the Right to Move’ - you can read a review here. We’ll be joined by some exciting speakers who will draw on their lived and professional experience to examine the links between climate change and migration.

We’re delighted to be joined by:

  • Bulelani Mfaco from Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland (MASI) - an independent platform for asylum seekers to join together - seeking justice, freedom and dignity for all asylum seekers.
  • Go Dance for Change - a grassroots transcultural collective that shares dance and appreciation for cultural diversity to promote inclusion and action towards social change.
  • Myriam Douo - co-author of ‘Lobbying Fortress Europe: The making of a border-industrial complex’ and Economic Justice campaigner for Friends of the Earth Europe
  • Jacob Berkson from Alarm Phone - a hotline for people in distress in the Mediterranean sea.

Register here to hear from these exciting speakers on 12th April

SAVE THE DATE: Our fourth Learning Hub event will also be based on Reece Jones’ book ‘Violent Borders, Refugees and the Right to Move’. This workshop will allow us to dig deeper into the issues explored in the webinar and book and will take place on 26th of April.
Don’t forget - we are sending copies of the Violent Borders book to everyone who makes a 30 euro one-off donation or a 4 euro monthly donation to Friends of the Earth.

Donate here to receive your book!

If you can’t get your hands on the book - or don’t have time to read it - then don’t worry! We are creating read and watch lists on the themes of climate and migration - you can dip into these ahead of our events if that suits you better. The beauty of our Learning Hub is that you can read (or watch) for just a few minutes or for many hours!

Looking forward to seeing you at our next Learning Hub event!
