Faster and Fairer Climate Action Campaign Update

View all news

Faster and Fairer Climate Action is our campaign to achieve our Strategic Objective on climate governance. Much of our work on this campaign is pursued through our coordination and participation in the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition.

In recent months we have maintained our campaign to strengthen the Climate Bill. In December the Joint Oireachtas Committee concluded their scrutiny of the Bill. Their report from the process puts a spotlight on weaknesses in the Bill identified by many experts that came before the Committee, and by Stop Climate Chaos when the original draft was published in October. It makes specific recommendations to the Government on fixing those loopholes before the Bill comes to the Dáil to be formally debated this spring.

Our campaign is focused on ensuring that targets for reducing carbon emissions are legally binding and reflect the reduction of 51% carbon emissions by 2030 as agreed in the Programme for Government.

Our current live TD e-action is inviting people to email their TDs directly calling on them to progress the climate bill, and ensure the loop holes are closed. Specifically, to make sure the target of reducing emissions by 51% by 2030 is legally binding, and recommends that the promise of introducing a ban on imported fracked gas is enshrined in this legislation. If you haven't yet taken our e-action, you can take it here at this link. And you can read more about why this action is really important here.
