1. Places left for YouPEC 2010youpec

2010 has been declared the International Year of Biodiversity. YouPEC is a Youth Perspective Conference that will bring together 150 people (aged 18-30) from all over Europe to learn, share skills and experiences on biodiversity. The conference will take place from 1st-6th of July, in Belgium to mark the period of Belgian presidency of the European Union which runs from July to December 2010. JNM (Young FoE Belgium) will host the event.

Although applications closed a while ago, we have good news for some countries!There are still a number of places for young people from: Estonia, France, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Lithuania, Latvia, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. On the website you will also find an application form for the second call of applications for YouPEC 2010, which you need to send to applications@youpec2010.eu. The closing date for this final round of application is the 10th of May.

2. Your ideas for 2010-2011

yfoe ideasLast Monday Young Friends of the Earth members, students from NUIM, TCD and NCAD met up to generate a feast of ideas for Young FoE in 2010 - 2011. For a taste of what ideas we came up with you can read the minutes or get in touch about join us for the next meeting. Meanwhile Tara and John are travelling over land to represent us at the Young Friends of the Earth European network gathering in Amsterdam, and bringing back loads of fresh ideas from what other YFoE groups have been working on in other countries.

3. Summer events

SoltaSummer 2010 is full of opportunities for up skilling yourself as an environmental and social justice activist. For those interested in learning more about direct action there is the Earth First! Summer Gathering; for those excited about creative climate campaigning there's a German Climate Camp at Garzweiler, a Climate Camp in France, and the UK Climate Camp. If you are curious about our own local environmental and social justice campaigns here in Ireland there's Climate Camp Ireland and the Rossport June Gathering. For cyclists into climate justice there's the Merthyr to Mayo cycle. If you're particularly interested in school or college based campaigning People and Planet UK campaign days might be a great place to start. Whatever your interest, we can help put you in touch with other young people interested in joining you for the journey and the experience. We'll keep you posted about the Young FoEE summer camp in Poland. Young Friends of the Earth will also be meeting up on a weekend in August (date TBA), to kick off a series of fun weekends in 2010-2011. Keep your diaries free for 25th-26th of September for an end of summer activist gathering in Ireland!

4. Internship opportunity

Friends of the Earth is recruiting a Young Friends of the Earth intern to participate in their fifth annual internship programme. The internship advertisement and full job description are now available on the Friends of the Earth website. The closing date for applications is May 17th.
