15 Feb 2006

In the weeks leading up to the first anniversary of the Kyoto protocol coming into effect on 16th February another 12 TDs have signed the Friends of the Earth Climate Pledge.

This brings the total to 77, just 7 short of a majority in the Dáil.

The Pledge commits the TDs to working to ensure Ireland does its fair share to tackle climate change.

The new signatories are Pat Carey, Maire Hoctor, Barry Andrews and John Moloney from Fianna Fáil; Olivia Mitchell, Dinny McGinley, Paul Kehoe, Shane McEntee, Paul Connaughton and Tom Hayes from Fine Gael; and independent TD and MEP Marian Harkin.
